Tabas is a desert city located in South Khorasan province in central Iran, about 950 kilometers southeast of Tehran.

It is known as the "Bride of the Iranian desert" due to its unique desert landscape, rich history, and cultural heritage. The city has a hot desert climate but supports date palms, citrus trees, and other vegetation notably in places like the Golshan Garden, a historic and lush oasis. Tabas has ancient roots and has been an important fortified city and trading hub throughout history, once known as Tabas al-Tamr for its date groves.

The area features several historical and architectural sites such as the Shah Abbasi Arch Dam, one of the oldest arched dams in the world, numerous caravanserais, forts, and a citadel, many reflecting Persian architectural heritage. The city experienced a devastating earthquake in 1978 but remains an important regional center with a growing population, universities, and pilgrimage sites, blending its natural desert beauty with historical significance and local culture.
