The Tomb of King Kongmin, located near Kaesong in North Korea, is a well-preserved 14th-century royal mausoleum built for King Kongmin, the 31st ruler of the Goryeo Dynasty, and his wife, Queen Indeok. Completed in 1372, the site features two burial mounds set on a hillside and is considered one of the finest examples of Goryeo royal tomb architecture. The tomb is known for its impressive stonework, carved granite base, and rows of statues depicting military officials, civil servants, sheep, and tigers, which symbolize protection, harmony, and royal authority. The placement of the tomb was carefully chosen according to traditional geomantic principles, reflecting the importance of feng shui in Korean royal culture. As part of the UNESCO-listed Historic Monuments and Sites in Kaesong, the tomb provides valuable insight into the art, beliefs, and burial traditions of the Goryeo period. Its historical significance, scenic setting, and remarkable preservation make it one of the most important cultural landmarks in North Korea.
