Torre Civica in Castellucchio is the most visible surviving part of the town’s medieval castle. The original fortress was built in the 10th century and later strengthened by the Canossa family and the Gonzaga rulers, serving as an important defensive structure in the Mantua area. Most of the castle was destroyed between the 18th century and the Napoleonic era, but the imposing brick tower, about 26 meters high, survived. Today, it stands as a symbol of Castellucchio’s history and recalls the town’s origins as a fortified settlement. The tower dominates the historic center and has been preserved as a local landmark. It now houses the Fosco Baboni Museum of Antique Weapons, combining the site’s military heritage with a cultural role for visitors and residents.
