Built between the 13th and 14th centuries during the Angevin period, it stood at a strategic border between the Kingdom of Naples and the Papal States, where it controlled a river crossing and served as a customs post for travelers and merchants. The complex includes a tall square tower and fortified enclosure, reflecting both its defensive and administrative roles. Today, it remains an important landmark that illustrates the region’s medieval history and its role in trade and border control.
