Torre Torelli is a distinctive neo-medieval tower in the town of Tirano, Lombardy. It was built in the second half of the 19th century at the request of Count Luigi Torelli, a prominent local patriot and statesman, primarily as a symbol of family prestige rather than for military defense. Although originally intended as a private retreat or study, the tower was later used as a silk-spinning facility and, during World War II, as a Fascist outpost. Its architecture imitates a medieval fortress, featuring stone walls, arched windows, swallowtail battlements, and decorative dragon-shaped rain spouts. Today, Torre Torelli is one of Tirano’s most recognizable landmarks. Rising prominently along the town’s main street, it stands as a reminder of the area’s 19th-century history and its fascination with medieval-inspired architecture.
