Torri di Fraele are two medieval stone watchtowers located at an altitude of about 1,930 meters in the Fraele Pass near Valdidentro, overlooking the route between Bormio, Livigno, and the Upper Valtellina.

Built in 1391 during the Visconti period, they formed part of a larger defensive system designed to protect the valley and control important mountain trade and travel routes. The towers were strategically positioned on a rocky outcrop and originally belonged to a fortified complex that included defensive structures and movable wooden stairways, which gave the pass its alternative name, Passo delle Scale.

The fortress was strengthened in the late 15th century but was largely destroyed during conflicts with the Grisons in 1513. Today, the restored ruins of the towers are among the most iconic landmarks of Alta Valtellina. They attract visitors with their rich history, dramatic mountain setting, and spectacular views over the Cancano Lakes, Valdidentro, and the surrounding Alpine peaks.
