Traventhal House
Traventhal, Germany, Germany
Traventhal House, also known as Schloss Traventhal, is a historic manor in Traventhal near Bad Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, serving as the summer residence of the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön since the late 17th century.
Originally built in 1684 as a wooden hunting lodge by Duke Johann Adolf, it was rebuilt in 1738 under Duke Friedrich Karl with a renowned late-baroque or rococo garden—the largest and most significant in the duchies—famous as the site of the 1700 Peace of Traventhal treaty between Denmark and Sweden.
The original structure was demolished late 19th century and replaced by a historicist-style building, later becoming a Prussian state stud farm in 1866 specializing in Holsteiner horses.
