Truppenübungsplatz Putlos
Oldenburg in Holstein, Germany, Germany
Truppenübungsplatz Putlos is Germany's only military training ground with direct coastal access, located near Oldenburg in Holstein in Schleswig-Holstein.
Established in 1935 as a firing and exercise range for the Wehrmacht's Panzer troops, it expanded during World War II for anti-aircraft training and later served British and American forces post-war before the Bundeswehr took over in 1957.
Today it supports diverse exercises with sea firing zones in the Hohwachter Bucht, hosts rare biodiversity in its Natura 2000-protected areas despite munitions hazards, and marked its 90th anniversary with a major open day in September 2025.
