Turmmuseum Schloß Mengerskirchen
Mengerskirchen, Germany, Germany
Turmmuseum Schloss Mengerskirchen is a local history museum housed in the oldest part of Schloss Mengerskirchen, a medieval residential and defensive tower built around 1320 by Count Johann of Nassau-Dillenburg in Mengerskirchen, Hesse, Germany.
Opened in 1990, it displays artifacts from the castle and local history, including 17th-century architectural paintings, Renaissance-era frescoes with Christian and antique motifs in the Kemenate chamber, Celtic pottery from 500 BCE, nail forging tools with a historic dog-powered bellows, clay processing exhibits, flax production gear, handwoven linens, sacred church items, and craft workshops.
The castle itself evolved from a hunting lodge and widow's seat for Nassau-Beilstein countesses into a school, residence, town hall, and now museum site, open seasonally from May to September.
