Unteres Schloß Ellefeld
Ellefeld, Germany, Germany
Unteres Schloß Ellefeld is a castle-like manor house built in 1734 in the village of Ellefeld near Plauen in Germany's Vogtland region, commissioned by the daughters of industrialist Veit Hans Schnorr von Carolsfeld as the headquarters for a hammer mill and brassworks established around 1460.
Featuring a prominent family coat of arms above the entrance gable, it served the Schnorr family—who gained noble status in 1687 for contributions to mining and manufacturing—before passing through various owners without ever being a formal Rittergut.
Fully restored in 1992-1993 after years of industrial use, this privately owned cultural monument stands as a key landmark in Ellefeld's historic core alongside the "Oberes Schloß" from 1710, reflecting the area's early industrialization from farming to metalworking.
