Uretiti Beach
New Zealand, New Zealand
Uretiti Beach is a 5-kilometer stretch of white sand located between Ruakākā and Waipu on Bream Bay, south of Whangārei in Northland, New Zealand.
It's a popular spot for swimming, surfing, fishing, and long walks, with water that consistently passes safety tests for swimming. The beach is Northland's most popular destination for naturism and is well-known as a clothing-optional beach, particularly south of the campground, with a strong LGBTQ+ community presence during New Year camping.
A Department of Conservation campground sits within the Uretiti Recreation Reserve behind the sand dunes, offering cold showers and vault toilets for visitors. The beach is rarely crowded despite being accessible, has abundant shellfish like tuatua at low tide, and offers excellent fishing and dog-friendly areas, though visitors should be aware that 4WD vehicles and motorbikes occasionally use the beach.
