Vakil Bazaar

Shiraz, Fars Province, Iran, Iran

Vakil Bazaar in Shiraz, Fars Province, Iran, is a historic covered market in the city’s center, originally built in the 18th century during the Zand Dynasty for the ruler Karim Khan, whose title “Vakil” (Regent) gave the bazaar its name. It is part of a larger Vakil complex that includes a mosque, caravanserai, water storage, and bathhouses, and it has long served as Shiraz’s main commercial hub. The bazaar features long, vaulted brick‑arched alleys lined with shops selling Persian carpets, copperware, spices, traditional sweets, handwoven textiles, and local handicrafts, including goods made by nomadic Qashqai artisans. Today it remains a lively, colorful place for both locals and visitors, offering a glimpse into traditional Persian urban life, craftsmanship, and the enduring culture of the bazaar.
