Featuring a prominent bergfried tower and adjacent Gothic palas hall, plus remnants of an outer bailey wall and moat now serving as a forest path, it controlled the strategic river valley alongside its sister forts: Mittelburg, Hinterburg, and Schwalbennest.

Today, this privately owned and inhabited ruin at 155 meters elevation offers limited views from afar amid a scenic park with exotic trees, accessible via a short 10-minute hike from a free parking lot near the B37 highway, though interior visits are not permitted. The castle's forested setting provides a picturesque vantage point popular with hikers exploring the Odenwald region's castle trail.
