Waldmannshausen Castle
Elbtal, Germany, Germany
Waldmannshausen Castle is a well-preserved late Gothic water castle in Elbgrund, part of Elbtal municipality in Hesse's Limburg-Weilburg district, Germany, constructed between 1486 and 1488 by Thebus of Waldmannshausen as a vassal stronghold.
The three-story stone structure features round towers with conical roofs at opposite corners, a central staircase tower, and a steep gabled roof, originally surrounded by moats that have since been filled; it fell into ruin by the 17th century before restoration in 1786 and expansion with an adjacent 1790 palace including former princely stables.
Since 1935, the site has served as a Schullandheim educational facility for school groups, owned by a Westphalian organization, and represents significant cultural heritage about 18 km north of Limburg an der Lahn.
