Warsberger Burg Wincheringen
Wincheringen, Germany, Germany
Warsberger Burg, also known as Burg Warsberg or Warsberghaus, in Wincheringen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, is the remnant of a medieval moated castle (Wasserburg) originating in the 11th-12th century and first documented in 1333, initially built by the Lords of Wincheringen.
Granted as a fief to the Barons of Warsberg (from Varsberg, Lorraine) by Trier's Electorate in 1357, they shaped the village and region until 1793, with a 15th-century 17-meter bergfried (defense tower) featuring a protruding stair turret and Renaissance portal, plus a 16th-century three-story Renaissance manor house.
Much of the site was destroyed over centuries, but the tower—rebuilt after WWII damage—and manor endure as the village landmark, now serving as a bell tower, municipal office, event hall, and cultural hub owned by the community since 1975.
