Wasserburg Kottspiel
Bühlertann, Germany, Germany
Wasserburg Kottspiel is a medieval water castle ruin located near the hamlet of Kottspiel in the municipality of Bühlertann, in the Schwäbisch Hall district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Built by the lords of Kottspiel in the 13th century, the castle was abandoned by the mid-14th century. Today, only faint remnants of the castle remain visible in the landscape, primarily marked by a rectangular depression of about 50 meters in diameter with gentle slopes and a central mound. The site lies in a river bend of the Bühler River, situated between houses and the river itself.
The surrounding area is now mostly meadow with some scattered fruit trees outlining the former castle's footprint. Despite its modest remains, Wasserburg Kottspiel reflects the medieval history of this rural part of Germany and the architectural footprint of water castles from that era.
