Wasserburg Schloß-Nauses
Otzberg, Germany, Germany
Wasserburg Schloß-Nauses in Otzberg, Germany, is a small late-medieval moated castle, originally laid out around 1500 as a water fortress fed by a nearby stream in a valley southeast of Otzberg mountain.
Measuring 26 by 32 meters with a ring wall and moat—now mostly vanished—it features a preserved late-Gothic gate tower with buckled corner blocks and a narrow rectangular main house on a high stone base topped by timber framing, built by the Gans von Otzberg family who held it as a fief from 1357.
Passed to the von Sickingen family in 1698 and later to Hesse-Darmstadt in 1806, its remnants today exemplify a Niederadel lowland seat amid the Odenwald, with 19th-20th century outbuildings and a historic coat of arms on the tower.
