Wasserburg Schwebda
Meinhard, Germany, Germany
Wasserburg Schwebda, also called Walrabshof, in Schwebda near Meinhard, Germany, is a medieval moated castle built between 1243 and 1269 by the Lords of Schwebda as their family seat, protected by a moat fed from the nearby Werra River.
Originally a fortress for local noble families including the von Keudell heirs, it later passed to the Landgraves of Hesse before being dismantled in the 16th century, when its stones were reused to build the "Steinerne Haus" manor house with a distinctive privy turret that still stands today in private ownership.
The site retains traces of its defenses amid Schwebda's historic Lindenanger green, serving as a quiet reminder of regional medieval power near the Werratalsee lake.
