First documented in 1172 as "Xillingho" tied to a lost settlement called Zillingen, it evolved from 12th-century origins into a Renaissance castle by the 16th century, later repurposed as a surveying office and retirement home.
Maintained by a local preservation association, it welcomes visitors with guided tours, tea, and cake service from June to September, showcasing its impressive architecture amid the northern Harz countryside.
