Established in 1965 by a group of dedicated volunteers, it showcases one of the world's largest collections of Western Azaleas along with diverse Japanese maples and native Pacific Northwest plants. The arboretum features five distinct gardens, an ethnobotanical trail highlighting Native American uses of plants, a 26-acre forest with hiking trails, and a children's discovery forest. It provides a tranquil natural setting with a mix of cultivated gardens and forested areas, offering educational opportunities, plant sales, and community events.

The arboretum is managed by a nonprofit organization and is open daily with free admission, making it an accessible and cherished green space for nature lovers and families in the region.
