Willowwood Arboretum in Chester Township, New Jersey, is a historic 130-acre site originally purchased in 1908 by brothers Henry and Robert Tubbs, who transformed it from farmland and pasture into a rich horticultural landscape featuring both native and exotic plants.

The Tubbs brothers, passionate amateur horticulturists, fostered friendships with leading botanists and collectors, allowing them to amass a collection of over 3,500 species including oaks, maples, willows, magnolias, lilacs, and a notable dawn redwood towering nearly 100 feet tall today.

The property includes historic buildings such as the Tubbs' residence and various outbuildings, adding to its charm. After being managed privately for decades, the arboretum was transferred to Rutgers University in 1967 for research purposes and later became part of the Morris County Park System in 1980, which continues to maintain the grounds and provide educational nature programs.

Willowwood offers a tranquil blend of meadows, designed gardens, and undisturbed forest areas, with scenic walking trails that highlight the seasonal beauty and botanical diversity of the region.
