Zámek Ořechov
Ořechov, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Zámek Ořechov in the village of Ořechov dates back to the period between 1629 and 1638 when it was built by Jan Arnošt Plateis of Plattenstein on the site of a former fortress mentioned as early as 1527.
The castle underwent Baroque modifications in the mid-17th century. In 1682, the estate, including the castle, was acquired by the Counts of Magni, and in 1746, Elisabeth, the wife of Rudolf of Magni, established a Baroque chapel near the castle.
Later, the castle came under the ownership of the Velehrad Monastery, which used it as a sanatorium for monks. The castle grounds originally included a garden and park which were later converted to fields in the late 19th century. After the dissolution of the monastery, ownership passed through several hands, and the Salesian order used the castle as a monastery building.
Following World War II, the castle served as storage for the local agricultural cooperative and various community uses. Since 1988 it was used as a medical supplies warehouse. In 2007, Dr. Alessandro Alagia purchased the castle and began comprehensive restoration efforts.
The castle is mainly used for private purposes but part of it is open to the public for events such as concerts, weddings in the chapel, and community gatherings. A notable feature includes a water-themed area with a pool and waterfalls. As of 2025, the castle is on sale.
