Zelen grad (Skobaljic grad)
Vučje, Serbia, Serbia
Zelen grad, also known as Skobaljić grad, is a medieval fortress perched on steep cliffs above Vučje in southern Serbia on the forested slopes of Kukavica mountain, overlooking the Vučjanka River canyon.
Archaeological layers reveal Chalcolithic and Bronze Age settlements, pre-Roman stone fortifications, and early Byzantine structures, with intensive use from the 10th to 13th centuries before major 15th-century expansion under Serbian voivode Nikola Skobaljić—the legendary last ruler of Dubočica—who governed it during Despot Đurađ Branković's reign amid Ottoman threats.
The site spans about 2 hectares with an upper town featuring ramparts, two diagonal towers including a dominant northwest keep, a lower town gate tower, and a northeast suburb, all protected by natural rock barriers and woods until its fall in the mid-15th century, now preserved as a cultural monument with visible stone remnants.
