North Macedonia, North Macedonia
Zletovo is the largest village in North Macedonia's Probištip municipality, located on both sides of the Zletovska River at around 500 meters elevation and connected by regional asphalt road, with a population historically peaking at about 2,477 in 2002 before recent declines to roughly 1,200 residents primarily of Macedonian ethnicity.
First mentioned as a settlement in the 11th century, it passed from Byzantine to Serbian control in 1282 under King Milutin, who established Saxon miners to exploit its rich ore deposits in historic Serbian mines.
