Zoo Frankfurt is a major city zoo in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, set on about 11 hectares in the Ostend district just west of the city center.
Founded in 1858, it is the second‑oldest zoo in Germany and is home to more than 5,000 animals from over 500 species, including large mammals such as giraffes, elephants, tigers, and gorillas, as well as a wide range of birds, reptiles, insects, and fish.
The zoo features modern enclosures and large indoor animal houses such as the Borgori‑Forest ape house and the Grzimek House, the largest nocturnal‑animal house in Europe, plus an exotarium with aquariums and terrariums. It is open every day of the year, easily reachable by public transport, and combines animal‑viewing with strong conservation and education work, regularly hosting guided tours, feeding demonstrations, and species‑protection projects.
