Pattaya Man Suffers Severe Burns After Attempting Self-Immolation Over Unrequited Love

Pattaya, Thailand - A distressing incident recently occurred in the popular Thai coastal city of Pattaya, where a 44-year-old man attempted to set himself on fire after repeatedly being rejected by a woman he had feelings for.

According to local reports, the man worked as a driver assisting disabled lottery ticket vendors in the city. Over time, he developed feelings for one of the vendors and confessed his love to her on multiple occasions. However, the woman declined his advances each time.

Witnesses say that after facing another rejection, the man became emotionally overwhelmed. In a desperate act, he first poured vegetable oil over himself and attempted to ignite it, but the fire failed to start properly. He later returned with gasoline, poured it on himself, and managed to ignite the fuel.

Residents nearby quickly noticed the flames and called emergency responders. Rescue workers arrived at the scene and provided immediate medical assistance before transporting him to a nearby hospital.

Doctors reported that the man suffered burn injuries covering approximately 30 to 40 percent of his body. He is currently receiving treatment and remains under medical supervision. Authorities stated that police will question him once his condition stabilizes.

While Pattaya is widely known for its beaches, nightlife, and tourism attractions, the incident highlights the serious emotional struggles individuals can face. Officials have urged people experiencing emotional distress to seek help from family, friends, or professional support services.

Incidents like this serve as a reminder that mental health awareness and emotional support are critical, even in vibrant tourist destinations like Pattaya.
