Aghamarta Castle is a historic castle site near Carrigaline in County Cork, Ireland. The original structure was a medieval tower house, likely dating from the late medieval period, and it is best known for its surviving stone ruins located within the grounds of the Aghamarta estate. Historical records mention the castle in the mid-16th century, when it was associated with the Wynchedon (or Nugent) family, and later with the Russell family, who served the Earls of Desmond. Parts of the tower collapsed during a major storm in 1839, leaving the picturesque ivy-covered ruins seen today. The estate later passed through several owners, and materials from the original castle were reportedly reused in the construction of a nearby house during the 19th century. The castle remains a notable local landmark, valued for its architectural and historical connection to County Cork’s medieval past.
