Alcazaba Citadell
Guadix, Spain, Spain
Alcazaba de Guadix is an 11th-century Zirid citadel crowning Guadix's highest hill in Granada province, Spain, built with rammed earth on masonry bases to protect the city and Granada road from Christian incursions during the Taifa era. Expanded under Nasrid rule with a second inner wall and residential tower, it surrendered peacefully to the Catholic Monarchs in 1489 via capitulation terms preserving Muslim rights, later serving Christian military needs until 16th-century demolitions removed interior structures. Partially modified during the Napoleonic era and restored in modern times, its orange ramparts and strategic remnants now offer panoramic views as a national monument amid Guadix's cave dwellings.
