Alcazaba de Antequera
Antequera, Spain, Spain
Alcázar de Antequera is a prominent Moorish fortress in Antequera, Málaga province, Spain, constructed primarily in the 14th century over Roman ruins during the Nasrid period to serve as a frontline defense against advancing Christian forces from the north. Its rectangular layout features massive defensive walls, the imposing Torre del Homenaje keep—one of al-Andalus's largest with a 15th-century Christian bell tower added—and the connected Torre Blanca, forming a strategic highland stronghold that symbolized Antequera's pivotal role in the Reconquista. Captured in 1410 by Infante Ferdinand, it lost military significance post-conquest but remains a well-restored cultural landmark offering panoramic city views alongside the nearby Collegiate Church.
