The Alcázar de Jerez de la Frontera is a majestic 12th-century Almohad fortress in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz province, Andalusia, Spain, renowned as one of the Iberian Peninsula's finest surviving examples of Muslim military architecture. Originally built as a self-sufficient walled citadel spanning about 4 kilometers with double walls, seven albarrana towers, living quarters, baths, a mosque, and supply stores to defend against invasions, it later served as a Christian residence for early mayors after the Reconquista and saw additions like the Baroque Palace of Villavicencio in 1664 and the 15th-century Torre del Homenaje keep. Featuring an octagonal watchtower, city gates with chicanes, and a mix of rammed earth, brick, and stone, the restored complex now belongs to the city council, offering free public access to explore its layered history amid scenic views of the historic quarter.
