The Alcázar de Toledo is a massive quadrangular fortress perched on the highest hill in Toledo, overlooking the Tagus River in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, with origins as a 3rd-century Roman palace later fortified by Visigoths and Moors into a strategic stronghold.

Transformed under Alfonso VI after the 1085 Reconquista and extensively rebuilt in the 16th century by architects Alonso de Covarrubias and Juan de Herrera for Charles V and Philip II, it blends Romanesque, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, and Plateresque styles across its four towers, robust walls, grand courtyards, and ornate halls that hosted Hernán Cortés.

Famously besieged for 71 days during the 1936 Spanish Civil War under Colonel Moscardó—symbolizing Nationalist resistance—it was largely rebuilt post-1939 and now houses the Army Museum with military artifacts, a library, and panoramic city views.
