Amedi (also known as Amadiya or Amedy) is a historic town in the Dohuk Governorate of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, famous for its dramatic location atop a steep, flat-topped mountain surrounded by beautiful valleys and mountains.

Believed to have been founded thousands of years ago, it is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the region. Throughout its long history, Amedi was influenced by numerous civilizations, including the Assyrians, Medes, Persians, and later Islamic dynasties. It also served for centuries as the capital of the Bahdinan Emirate, an important Kurdish principality.
