Ardamullivan Tower, more commonly known as Ardamullivan Castle, is a well-preserved 16th century tower house located near Gort in County Galway, Ireland. Built by the O'Shaughnessy clan, who were powerful local Gaelic lords, it served as both a fortified residence and a defensive stronghold in the region. The structure rises to six storeys and features typical tower-house elements such as a spiral staircase, narrow defensive windows, machicolations, fireplaces, and thick stone walls. Restoration work carried out in the 1990s helped preserve the castle and revealed rare medieval wall paintings and decorative artwork inside. Today, Ardamullivan Castle is a National Monument of Ireland and is cared for by the Office of Public Works. Visitors can view the exterior of the castle, which remains an important example of Ireland’s late medieval architecture and heritage.
