Ardgillan Castle is a historic country house set within a large coastal estate near Balbriggan in County Dublin, Ireland. Although commonly called a castle, it was originally built as “Prospect House” in 1738 and later enhanced with decorative battlements and Gothic-style features that gave it its castle-like appearance. Set in nearly 200 acres of parkland overlooking the Irish Sea, the estate is renowned for its scenic views, woodland walks, walled gardens, rose gardens, Victorian glasshouses, and landscaped grounds. The name Ardgillan comes from the Irish term meaning “High Wood,” reflecting the area's historic woodland setting. The property remained in the Taylor family for more than two centuries before being acquired by the local council in the 1980s and restored for public use. Today, visitors can explore the elegant interiors, learn about over 300 years of history, and enjoy one of the most picturesque heritage parks in the Dublin region.
