Argüeso Castle
Spain, Spain
Argüeso Castle, also known as Castillo de San Vicente de Argüeso, is a medieval Gothic rock fortress in Argüeso, Hermandad de Campoo de Suso, Cantabria, Spain, perched on a hill guarding the ancient coastal-Castile route through the Saja Valley.
Constructed over the 13th to 15th centuries atop a 9th-century hermitage of San Vicente—whose remnants and associated early medieval necropolis remain visible—it served as the emblematic stronghold of the Mendoza family and later the Marquisate of Argüeso.
Declared a Cultural Interest Property in 1983, it was restored in the late 20th century by local authorities and now stands as Cantabria's oldest and finest surviving roqueño castle, open to visitors for its historic architecture and panoramic highland views.
