Bäckaskog Slott
Kjuge, Sweden, Sweden
Bäckaskog Slott is a historic castle situated near Kjuge in Kristianstad Municipality, Scania, Sweden, nestled between the scenic lakes Ivösjön and Oppmannasjön.
Originally founded as a Premonstratensian monastery in the mid-13th century, it provided healing, agriculture, and herbal knowledge until the Danish Reformation in 1537 dismantled it, after which the Danish crown repurposed it as a fortified residence for noble families like Ulfstand, Brahe, and Ramel.
Following Sweden's acquisition in 1658, it served as a cavalry residence, later becoming a favored summer retreat for Crown Prince Karl (later Karl XV), who enhanced its gardens and architecture before its transition into a modern hotel, restaurant, and conference venue surrounded by romantic parks featuring herb gardens and trails.
