Ballea Castle is a historic castle located on Ballea Hill near Carrigaline in County Cork, Ireland. Originally built as a 15th-century tower house, it was later expanded into an L-shaped fortified residence and has undergone several periods of restoration over the centuries. The castle stands on an elevated site overlooking the Owenboy River valley, giving it impressive views of the surrounding countryside. The castle was associated with the MacCarthy family until the late 17th century and later restored by the Hodder family after falling into disrepair. Today, many of its historic architectural features remain, reflecting its medieval origins while also showing later modifications made for residential use. Now privately owned, Ballea Castle has been carefully renovated and is used as accommodation, allowing visitors to experience a unique stay in a historic Irish castle surrounded by farmland, woodland, and scenic landscapes.
