Ballindooley Castle is a restored medieval tower house located about 6 km north of Galway City in County Galway, Ireland. Believed to have been built around the late 15th century by the Anglo-Norman De Burgo (Burke) family, it is a notable example of Ireland's fortified tower houses, featuring thick stone walls, battlements, narrow windows, a spiral staircase, and other defensive elements typical of the period. Over the centuries, the castle witnessed local conflicts and historical events, including its reported shelling during the 1916 Easter Rising. After standing vacant for many years, it was restored in the late 20th century and today retains much of its historic character while offering modern comforts. Set beside Ballindooley Lake and surrounded by scenic countryside, the castle is now used as tourist accommodation, allowing visitors to experience life in a genuine Irish castle while exploring the attractions of nearby Galway.
