Ballyallaban Earthen Ringfort is a well-preserved ancient circular enclosure located in the Burren region of County Clare, Ireland.
Believed to date from the early medieval period, it was likely used as a fortified farmstead or family settlement, providing both protection and a place to live and work. The ringfort consists of a large earthen bank and surrounding moat, which were created by using soil excavated from the ditch.
The site has an internal diameter of about 100 feet and was probably once topped by a wooden palisade for additional defense. Today, Ballyallaban Earthen Ringfort is recognized as a National Monument and offers visitors a glimpse into Ireland’s early rural history. Surrounded by the distinctive limestone landscape of the Burren, it combines archaeological significance with scenic natural beauty.
