Ballymalis Castle is a well-preserved 16th century tower house located near Beaufort in County Kerry, on the banks of the River Laune in southwest Ireland. Traditionally associated with the O'Moriarty family, though often credited to the Ferris family, the castle was built as a fortified residence and later underwent renovations before changing ownership several times after the 17th century. The limestone structure rises four storeys with an attic and features characteristic medieval defensive elements, including corner turrets, spiral staircases, fireplaces, and decorative mullioned windows. Its elevated position offers scenic views of the surrounding countryside, including nearby mountains and the River Laune. Today, Ballymalis Castle is a state-owned National Monument and remains a notable example of Ireland's tower house architecture, attracting visitors interested in Irish history, heritage, and picturesque castle ruins.
