The present three-story country house was built in the mid-18th century and overlooks Ballynahinch Lake and the Ballynahinch River, with the Twelve Bens mountains forming a dramatic backdrop. Over the centuries, the property was owned by several notable figures, including Richard "Humanity Dick" Martin, a founder of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the Indian prince and famous cricketer Ranjitsinhji, who purchased the estate in 1924 and invested in its development.
