Bargy Castle is a historic Norman-style fortress near the village of Tomhaggard in County Wexford, Ireland. Originally built by the Rossiter family in the 15th century, it features a central square keep with later additions that reflect centuries of architectural development and occupation. The castle has a rich and eventful past, passing through several prominent families and playing a role in significant periods of Irish history, including the Cromwellian confiscations and the 1798 Rebellion. It was later restored and preserved after periods of decline, helping to maintain its distinctive medieval character. Today, Bargy Castle is one of County Wexford’s best-known historic landmarks. Known for its impressive architecture and long history, it remains a striking reminder of the region’s Norman heritage and has also gained attention through its association with the family of musician Chris de Burgh.
