Batería de Aspiroz (ruins)
Spain, Spain
Batería de Aspiroz ruins are remnants of a small 19th-century coastal artillery battery in San Fernando, Cádiz province, Andalusia, Spain, constructed during the Napoleonic Siege of Cádiz (1810-1812) as part of a defensive network protecting the southern entrance to Islote de Sancti Petri alongside Castillo de Sancti Petri, Batería de Urrutia, and Batería de San Genís.
Positioned farther north and more exposed to the sea, its modest size and lighter armament complemented the larger fortifications against French naval threats, embodying early 19th-century bastioned defense strategies. Protected since 1949 under Spain's historical heritage laws and further by 1985 legislation, the weathered ruins stand as a testament to Cádiz's successful resistance amid marshy coastal terrain.
