Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) is Israel’s fastest-growing research university, located in Beer-Sheva and established in 1969 to fulfill the vision of Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, who believed the country’s future lay in developing the Negev region.

With about 20,000 students across three campuses in Beer-Sheva, Sde Boker, and Eilat, BGU is a cutting-edge powerhouse conducting groundbreaking research in fields from medicine and humanities to cyber security, robotics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, desert agriculture, water research, and alternative energy. The university plays a central role in transforming Beer-Sheva into Israel’s cyber capital, partnering with multinational corporations for innovative R&D, and produces one-third of Israel’s engineers.

BGU is a “university with a conscience” that actively engages in community service, with over a third of students participating in one of the world’s most developed community action programs, and makes significant contributions to desert studies, hydrology, drylands agriculture, and global health while fostering peace initiatives between Israel and Arab neighbors.
