The Blue Mountains (Montagnes Bleues) are a striking group of rocky hills located on the northeastern edge of the Aïr Mountains in Niger’s Agadez Region. Rising from the surrounding desert landscape, they are famous for their unusual bluish appearance, which comes from distinctive marble rock formations that reflect a blue tint in the sunlight. Separated from the main mountain massif by dunes and gravel plains of the Ténéré Desert, the mountains create a dramatic and isolated landscape. They lie within the protected Aïr and Ténéré National Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its remarkable desert scenery and unique wildlife habitats. Although remote and difficult to reach, the Blue Mountains have long attracted adventurous travelers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts.
