The Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Memorial Museum in Câmpina, Romania, is a Gothic Revival castle known as "Iulia Hasdeu Castle," built between 1893 and 1896 by renowned scholar, writer, and linguist Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu as a spiritist temple to communicate with his beloved daughter Iulia, who died tragically at age 18 from tuberculosis in 1888. Designed by architect Thoma Dobrescu with esoteric symbols like inverted torches, zodiac motifs, and occult inscriptions inspired by Hasdeu's spiritualist séances—where he claimed Iulia dictated plans—the eclectic structure served as the family home until his death in 1907, later damaged in World War I occupation before state restoration in 1958-1964 as a museum.
