Borovany
Czech Republic, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Borovany is a town of about 4,200 people in the České Budějovice District of Czechia's South Bohemian Region, located 13 kilometers southeast of České Budějovice amid rolling foothills, fishponds, and the Stropnice River in a scenic rural landscape.
First mentioned in 1186, it grew with a 1455 Augustinian monastery later turned into a Baroque castle by the Schwarzenberg family after 1785, now housing a museum, library, and cultural spaces following town-led renovations.
The area includes Trocnov, birthplace of Hussite general Jan Žižka with his protected monument, a late Gothic church, and Dvorec Zoo, drawing visitors for history and nature without heavy crowds along railway lines to Vienna.
