Bosjökloster
Bosjökloster, Sweden, Sweden
Bosjökloster, located at Bosjökloster in Höör Municipality in Sweden's Skåne region on a peninsula in Lake Ringsjön, began as a Benedictine convent for women founded around 1080, confirmed by Pope Lucius III in 1181, and grew wealthy through donations housing up to 65 nuns.
Closed during the 1536 Danish Reformation, it became crown property then passed to nobles like Torbern Bille, Thale Ulfstand (whose 1569 initials adorn the oak doors), the Beck family, and traitor Corfitz Ulfeldt, whose wife Leonora Christina was imprisoned, before returning to the Becks and now owned by Count Philip Bonde since 1908.
Transformed into a castle with preserved medieval elements like vaults and church tower, it features terraced gardens, ancient oaks including the 1000-year-old Millennium Oak, exhibitions, a café, and rowboat rentals amid its 900-year history.
