Carrickmines Castle Ruins are the remains of a medieval fortress in Carrickmines, County Dublin, Ireland. Originally developed from a Hiberno-Norse settlement and later fortified by the Normans, the castle played an important role in defending the English-controlled Pale around Dublin and protecting the route between Dublin and Wicklow. The site was once a large fortified complex with defensive walls, towers, and a settlement within its grounds. It was involved in several historical conflicts and was heavily damaged during the Irish Confederate Wars in the 17th century. Today, much of the castle survives as archaeological ruins, with some sections preserved despite the construction of the nearby M50 motorway. The site is valued for the insight it provides into medieval life, warfare, and the history of the Dublin region.
