Carthusian of Vallparadís Castle
Terrassa, Spain, Spain
Carthusian of Vallparadís Castle in Terrassa, Catalonia, Spain, began as a 12th-century fortified residence built around 1110 by nobleman Berenguer de Sanlà near the Vallparadís stream, serving as the Tarrasa family's stronghold for two centuries.
In 1344, Blanca de Centelles donated it to Carthusian monks from Escaladei Monastery, who transformed the military structure into a religious complex by adding a two-story cloister in the former parade ground, chapter house, chapel, and other monastic features during the 14th-15th centuries.
The site passed to Carmelites in 1413 before becoming a farmhouse, then underwent major 1950s restoration and opened as Terrassa's city museum in 1959, preserving its dual castle-monastery heritage amid Vallparadís Park.
